ZOOM IN: DISNEY ARIEL COLLECTION BY SEPHORA STORYLOOK EYESHADOW PALETTE
Inside the exclusive, new, The Little Mermaid-inspired palette.
The Disney Ariel Collection by Sephora Storylook Eyeshadow Palette includes 20 bright and brilliant eyeshadows, each fit for an underwater beauty. It’s all you need to look like a real catch. HOLLY SIEGEL
HOW CARTOON PRINCESSES GOT MADE UP “Snow White’s original paint colors were very pasty because, you know, she’s white as snow,” says David Pacheco, Master Artist. “But Walt wanted something on there that would give her more life. So the girls in Ink & Paint actually pulled rouge out of their makeup bags and put it on cells to show him that they could get this feeling of blush on her cheeks. They started with the rouge on the first few cells then developed what’s called a blend stick in various colors. It’s like stage makeup.”
THE STORYBOOK PALETTE SHADES “Dave [Pacheco] gave the first inspiration for the colors, based on the original paint colors of the character,” says Chad Sommers, Manager, Product Design. “One of the things that inspired us greatly was how the shades changed according to time of day or situation. That’s where the color stories came from.”
THE CASE Modernized artwork created by Disney Consumer Products, which drew inspiration from the original film for the palette’s cover, portrays Ariel in her grotto of collected treasure. “We really wanted to get a new Ariel pose,” says Sommers.
THE NAMES The shade names will take you back to the movie. Our favorites: Unfortunate Souls (a smoky lavender) and Jetsam (a glittering deep teal).
